What is a pimple?
A pimple is a small, inflamed, or infected pustule or papule that forms when hair follicles become clogged with excess oil (sebum), dead skin cells, and bacteria. They are a symptom of acne, appearing as red, swollen, or white-headed bumps on the face, chest, or back. To get rid of pimples, we must treat the inflammation and make the pimples dry out. Here are some effective and inexpensive home remedies.
- Ice
When a pimple becomes red, swollen, and painful, applying ice can help calm it down. The cold temperature helps constrict the blood vessels around the pimple, which can reduce both swelling and redness. To try this, wrap an ice cube in a clean cloth and gently press it against the affected area for about 1–2 minutes. This can help soothe the inflammation and make the pimple look less angry.
- Tea Tree Oil Spot Treatment
Thanks to its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, tea tree oil is highly effective in reducing swelling and acne causing bacteria without drying out the skin. Simply dilute the tea tree oil with a carrier oil (to avoid irritation) and gently apply it to the affected area using a cotton bud.
- Green Tea “Toner”
Green Tea contains high antioxidants that helps to reduce inflammation and controls excess sebum. After brewing a cup of green tea, allow it to cool and apply it to the skin as a toner for 2-3 times a week, to reduce oiliness and tighten pores.
- Yogurt “mask”
Yogurt helps to fight pimples effectively due to its probiotic and lactic acid content, which serves as a mild exfoliator while fighting bacteria. Choose a plain and unsweetened yogurt, apply it to the skin for 10-15 minutes and rinse it off.
- Benzoyl Peroxide Products
Benzoyl peroxide penetrates the hair follicle to kill bacteria that causes the inflammation, as well as keeps the pores from clogging. It comes in the form of gel, cream, lotion or cleansing liquid. You can easily purchase them from drugstore or pharmacy. It should be noted that benzoyl peroxide can make your skin dry, so don’t use it for more than twice daily.
These translucent stickers protect the treated area by preventing you from picking the acne. They also help reduce the inflammation by absorbing excess fluid from a developing blemish or a developed pimple. The vacuum-like effect also pulls out the debris from inside the pimples that could make the inflammation worse.
Aloe vera’s soothing properties allow it to calm irritated skin and speed up the process of healing on the skin. Meanwhile, it provides deep hydration without clogging the pores due to its lightweight, non-greasy texture. It is generally safe for all skin types including sensitive and acne prone skin.
